What you have learned?
In EDTECH 541, Integrating Technology, I have learned how to create lessons that include technology, but not make technology the focus. Before this class I did not even know what relative advantage was. Now I know it is a process of recognizing a pedagogical or learning problem, how technology can be used to solve the problem, how technology will truly make a difference, and what the outcome will be. I also realized the value of creating a resource page. I wish this would be implemented in EDTECH 501. My page could have been an invaluable resource with all of the resources I have used. I have them bookmarked but that is not as visual or as easy to access.
There are numerous tools to integrate technology in education. Many times we do not even realize we are using technology. Have you ever watched a tutorial? That's technology integration. Have you ever watched a simulation or played a game to learn or practice a concept? That's technology integration. How about creating spreadsheets or problem-solving software? That's technology integration. We integrate technology into a lot of educational opportunities of our lives without even realizing or focusing on it.
How the course work demonstrates mastery of the AECT standards?
The coursework for EDTECH 541 had demonstrated mastery in all of the AECT standards. Standard 1 - Design, was integrated into every presentation, project, or lesson created. Example - on my Integrating Technology into the Content Areas I created a picture header to represent each curriculum area. Standard 2 - Development, I developed real material that can be integrated into classrooms for learning. These assignments provide students with enriched, differentiated instructional, and engaged learning opportunities. Example - The video lesson includes lessons on writing, lesson plans for teachers, and tutorials for students. Standard 3 - Utilization, I used resources and processes to implement materials for learning. Example - Assistive Technologies project that can be implemented for all students to use as a resource for learning. Standard 4 - Management, I have demonstrated project management through my final project and resources page.
How you have grown professionally?
This term I had an opportunity to interview at a local university. Taking this class helped me realize that I can present myself, my portfolio, and my knowledge with confidence. There are always others who will know more, but being well-rounded in my education and life experience will help me succeed. I now know what to expect, and what to perfect for my future profession in this technology educator role.
Part Two: Assess Your Performance
You are being given the opportunity to provide a self-evaluation of your Blogging efforts during the course. Using the Blog rubric, http://edtech.mrooms.org/mod/resource/view.php?id=6395, discuss to what degree you met each of the criteria and then propose a final numerical grade. If this public forum causes you some concern, you are welcome to email me your self-assessment.
I feel my performance has been outstanding. I have completed all of my blog in a timely manner, with most receiving high reviews. I have used proper APA formatting, I have responded to at least two people each week, and have tried to make this class an enriched learning opportunity for myself and others.
